Email Marketing: Why It Still Beats Every Other Channel
Posted in Affiliate General Tips
The average organic reach of a Facebook post is 2.2% — meaning 2.2% of your followers actually see it. Email open rates average 20–40% depending on the industry. The difference isn’t just numbers — it’s intent. Email subscribers actively opted in to receive communication. Social media followers passively followed. Intent-driven audiences convert at dramatically higher rates. This is why email generates 40x more new customers than Facebook and Twitter combined.
Not all email subscribers are equal. A list built with a compelling lead magnet (a free guide, checklist, template, or mini-course that solves a specific problem) attracts higher-intent subscribers than a generic ‘Subscribe for updates’ form. The more specific the lead magnet — ‘7-Day Meal Plan for Busy Parents,’ not ‘Free Healthy Eating Guide’ — the better the subscriber quality and the higher the long-term conversion rate.
After someone subscribes, your welcome sequence determines whether they become a loyal customer or an unsubscriber. A proven structure: Email 1 — deliver the lead magnet and set expectations. Email 2 — share your story and establish credibility. Emails 3–5 — provide value (tips, insights, resources). Email 6 — introduce your offer with context and social proof. Email 7 — close with urgency or a bonus. This sequence, when done right, converts 3–8% of new subscribers into buyers within the first week.
Sending the same email to your entire list is one of the biggest email marketing mistakes. Different subscribers have different interests, problems, and stages of awareness. Segment by behavior (who opened last 3 emails vs. who didn’t), by interest (which lead magnet they downloaded), and by purchase history (buyers vs. non-buyers). Segmented email campaigns produce 14% higher open rates and 100% higher click-through rates than unsegmented campaigns.
